Kidney disease is a major problem. Worldwide 1:10 people are suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD). A progressive clinical unmet need that results in kidney failure with a growing number of people needing to rely on dialysis to survive. It is therefore the 8th leading cause of death in Western society.

Vacancy

Position: Chief Scientific Officer (full-time)

Role description

We are looking for our company’s chief visionary scientist as a critical expansion of the management. The CSO understands open innovation in a young biotech firm and has deep experience in leading a development program to the clinic. The CSO keeps oversight over the entire pipeline strategy but is also pragmatic removing roadblocks where needed. The CSO works closely with Hybridize’s CIO and internal scientists and with a broad network of academic labs and companies globally. We are seeking a seasoned leader keeping us at the forefront of emerging fields of biology.

Key responsibilities

1. Steers strategy for portfolio expansion
2. Enable intellectual property expansion in emerging fields of RNA biology
3. Implement new research programs/technologies in close collaboration with internal and external resources
4. Expand external (academic) network of Hybridize
5. Strong steering role in short and long term goals and overall scientific strategy
6. Support the CEO in financial rounds
7. Enable a culture of rigorous scientific work
8. Significantly contribute to the further development and maturation of Hybridize Therapeutics
9. Further the product development of existing and partnered pipeline

Your experience / qualifications

1. Ph.D. in Biology or Pharmacology
2. >15 years of experience as allrounder Sr Scientist in pharma/biotech environment, including startup experience
3. Proven track record in drug discovery of RNA-based products/technology
4. Significant experience with building out IP/portfolio
5. Track record in fundraising up to Series A
6. Expertise in delivering drug discovery projects from target validation to IND-stages
7. Understanding of kidney disease or other disease biology and disease-relevant signaling pathways
8. Ability to provide guidance and shape strategy for science in an evolving highly dynamic biotech environment
9. Passion for science
